Miles xs500 EV

After some confusion over how much it will cost, here are some good news about the XS500 electric car, the first highway-capable (80+ mph top speed, 120+ miles range) EV by Miles Electric Vehicles: The company has raised $15 million and the money is earmarked for further development of the XS500.

Last we’ve heard from Miles, the 2009 XS500 model is still projected to sell for “$30,000 to $35,000″ in the United States. Lets hope they can pull it off. For more info on the car, see our previous post about it:

Staff and students at the University of South Australia have designed and built a prototype of what they reckon might be the future commuter car for Australian cities. Trev sounds rather impressive. He goes from 0 to 100kph in 10 secs, has a top speed of 120 km/h, with a travel range of 150+km between charges of his 7kWh 44kg lithium ion polymer battery.

When charged from mains power he costs you $1 AUD per 100km to run, using what is said to be 1/5th of the energy of conventional car. Not that there is anything conventional about Trev.

Instead of investing big bucks in a new car, Agassi has developed a business plan and company (Project Better Place) modeled after the cellular phone business – where the more an owner uses a car (measured by hours at a recharging station) the less the vehicle will cost to buy.
