Brusa Introduces Electric Roadster

In the world of electric vehicles, the mantle of electric sports car king belongs to Tesla Motors for their Roadster model. Yes, there are other manufacturers out there developing all-electric sports cars, but the Tesla Roadster has been on the road and in buyer’s driveways for a couple years, and until another company matches that, they will remain on top. The Tesla Roadster is built on the platform of a Lotus Exige and features an all-electric drivetrain. A Swiss company by the name of BRUSA Elektronik has just introduced their own roadster, called the Brusa Spyder, that could contend with the Tesla.
The formula for the development of the Brusa Spyder seems very similar to that of the Tesla. The Tesla Roadster is based off of a small sports car from an established manufacturer that has been retrofitted with an all-electric drivetrain. The Brusa Spyder is that same, but instead of using a Lotus as their baseline, BRUSA uses what is likely either a Volkswagen or Porsche platform (those two companies are so intertwined it makes little difference which), and the styling evokes the Porsche 550 of the 1950s, with a dash of the Porsche 914 from the early 1970s.

The drivetrain of the Brusa Spyder consists of two 100-kilowatt electric motors, each driving one of the rear wheels. The car has 270 horsepower and 324 lb-ft of torque and a reported 0-to-60 mph speed of under five seconds. While that time seems impressive on paper, it is also a bit confounding. The Tesla Roadster has fewer horsepower (248), less torque (276 lb-ft), and weighs more than the Brusa (2,750 pounds compared to the Brusa’s reported 2,000). Still, any company that is putting out all-electric roadsters and dispelling the stigma that “green cars = boring cars” is okay in our book. No word yet on whether the Brusa Spyder will see production or whether it is a one-off test vehicle, but let’s hope for the former.Stardust film Ballast film Hellraiser: Hellseeker movies
