Both Ford And G.M. See Increase In April Hybrid Sales

Toyota, who currently has the highest hybrid sales in the auto market, saw a decline in American hybrid sales in April thanks in large part to gains made by the Ford Motor Company and General Motors. Ford’s hybrid sales were largely driven by the Ford Fusion Hybrid and the Mercury Milan Hybrid, which are both proving vastly successful. Ford sold a total of 2,299 hybrids in April, a 21% increase over the same month last year.
While Ford saw success in the mid-size sedan hybrid market, GM’s success was mainly driven by truck and SUV hybrids, in particular the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup truck hybrids. Last year, the company sold 1,100 hybrids in April and this year the sales increased to 1,534, a 39% increase. While the percentage increases for both companies seem high, the actual numbers are nowhere near Toyota’s sales reach, which was a combined 11,516 hybrids. 8,385 of those were Prius sales while the other 3,131 were sales of Camry and Highlander hybrids.
