Koenigsegg Buys Saab, Quant On The Way?

Back in March, we got our first look at the Koenigsegg Quant, a concept vehicle from the Swedish supercar developer that used a pyrite (a.k.a. Fool’s Gold) solar panel design that increased energy conversion levels. The Quant was estimated to have a 300 mile battery range, and that the batteries would only take a half hour or so to charge. And, because of the efficiency of the solar panels, a sunny day would help you go a lot further than 300 miles. Unfortunately, it seemed like the Quant would never hit the market, but with Koenigsegg’s recent purchase of the Saab brand from G.M., maybe it’s close than we think.
The combination of Koenigsegg’s superb engineering pedigree with the production capabilities of Saab’s larger facilities, make for a combination that is primed to unleash the Quant. There has been no official word on the exact activity of the Saab plants, and one would assume that Koenigsegg will be working closely with Saab’s officials in the coming days to determine the exact future of the company, but there have been a few reports that the Quant may begin prototype production by the beginning next year.
