Jaguar Goes Electric

British luxury car maker Jaguar is currently at work on two electric vehicle projects.  The first is a range-extended electric version of the company’s trademark XJ sedan, pictured above.  The electric XJ is planned for release in 2011 and would have a 30-mile all electric range with a fuel economy of 57 mpg, and emissions that are lower than most current market hybrids.  The next electric vehicle Jaguar is working on is their forthcoming XE roadster.

The XE roadster is still a ways off, with the car not to be unveiled until the Geneva Motor Show in March 2011, but Jaguar has already hinted that they will be offering the new model with a range-extended electric drivetrain.  The car would run on electric motors and have an onboard three-cylinder internal combustion engine that would be used to charge the battery.  While the XE is definitely on the way, an electric-drivetrain variant is still a concept and may or may not see the light of day.  The XJ range-extended electric sedan, however, will definitely be hitting showrooms in 2011.
