GM Bankruptcy Won't Affect Chevy Volt

Following General Motors’ filing for bankruptcy on June 1, many green car enthusiasts became a bit worried.  The company’s Chevrolet brand is in the midst of developing the Volt, a vehicle the company describes as one of the most innovative vehicles ever, but how would the bankruptcy affect that?  According to GM officials, not at all.

Following the company’s filing for Chapter 11, the federal government said that it would inject another $30 billion into GM that would allow it to finance its day-to-day operations while the division of assets was taken care of in court (even bankruptcy cases pushed through the court by powerful government friends will take a few months).  Bolstering this claim is the fact that pre-production versions of the Volt began being assembled just last week at one of GM’s facilities near Detroit, and the team wants to boost output to 10 vehicles per week.  Pre-production vehicles are produced by engineering teams in order to shake the kinks out of a vehicle before it hits the assembly line.  These should not be confused with “mule” vehicles.  The Volt powertrain has been put in a variety of chassis configurations (including the Chevy Cruze), but those tests were solely devoted to working on the powertrain and do not reflect the final iteration of the car.  The Volt is still scheduled to be released in November 2010.Lost Voyage film
